Since today is Father's Day, we are inundated with greetings, quotes, and images everywhere. Nearly everyone has updated their profiles to celebrate their fathers' greatness. Indeed, a father can hold that role for anyone. Many of us have wonderful experiences to recall on this day. Being a genuine father is not an easy task; it requires caring for children through both good times and bad. Sadly, we observe many fathers around us who are neglectful. When it comes to instilling discipline and providing for needs, how many truly act with sincerity?
Some people argue that these special days do not originate from our country. However, even if that is true, there is nothing wrong with expressing gratitude to our fathers for what they have done for us. In fact, setting aside specific days for important relationships is a positive practice. It can inspire children, even at a young age, to recognize and take responsibility for their bonds with others.
When I looked into the origins of Father's Day, I discovered that it began in the United States. In the early 20th century, a girl named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to honor her father for his love and for raising their six children after his wife passed away. He was also a veteran of the Civil War. She advocated for a special day for fathers, similar to Mother's Day, to express gratitude to all father-like figures.
