A Relentless Saga of Connecting People

13 July of this year is an important day in the annals of Bhadrachalam Bridge. The bridge has helped innumerable pilgrims to reach the divine abode and became synonymous with gateway to the states like Chattisgarh and Odisha as well. It completed 60 years since its inception in the year 1965.

There was a heartening incident in a ferrying boat that met a fatal accident wherein many pilgrims died in 1959, while en route Bhadrachalam via the Godavari river.

The waterway was the only means to reach Bhadrachalam until then. It was an arduous journey to enter the renowned temple built in 1674 CE by the saint poet Sri Kancharla Gopanna.

Soon after the bridge was materialized, the flow of people and vehicles increased with each passing year and this illustrious construction served a lot with its quality and still going strongly.

Patel and company did such a wonderful job by providing the 1.2 km length bridge valuing the public money and safety. All these 60 years withstood countless vehicles and commuters to connect with the world outside.

Watching the torrential river Godavari over the bridge in the rainy season could be a rare sight for any lover of nature. And the glimpse of the temple when a bus filled with pilgrims entered the bridge gives a sense of speechless awe.

The happiest thing is that one more new bridge was added this year by the side of it. The duo looks spectacular and now one bridge is used for incoming and another for outcoming.

It could be greatly helpful during the seasons of Sri Rama Navami, Mukkoti, and other festivals as the exodus of visitors would increase.  on special occasions.

All shades of Godavari can be witnessed from around the place. The rainy season shows immense flow and the peak summer is a dried-up and feeble water trail. Just like the climate of the temple town.

He was comfortable before Padmasri

Padmashri Sakine Ramachandrayya, a tribal folklore artist, is no more. He will not be seen by us forever from midday today.

He sleeps comfortably in the tomb built for him. We will no longer hear that bronze voice and bronze melody.

He did not die of illness as everyone is saying! We killed him mercilessly by giving him false hope. .

But his dying questions haunt us. "Many people have been given Padmashri. They have also been given crores of rupees. When they came to me, they showed an empty hand.

Is this discrimination because I was born in a tribal race?" He asked the same question till his death. Did he ask to give Padma Shri? Did he ask for one crore rupees? Hopes that did not exist. They took it around the offices.

They did not give a single penny.

Mentally crippled. He fell ill.

Finally, he died. Who should be called guilty now?

He lived comfortably before the arrival of Padma Shri.

If someone in the Koya community dies and performs the karma (last rites)

Doli artist Rama Chandrayya has to be there. The drum should be beaten. 'Purbam' should be said. When he sings the story, the whole town sways with enthusiasm.

Not only in Koya language, but also in Hindi, he used to say Purbam. That is why he also goes to Chhattisgarh.

He also  voiced out Sammakka Saralamma's struggle story in Koyabhasha itself

Prof. Jayadhir Tirumala Rao and Manoja Madam brought to light the story in oral form. A workshop was organized in Palvancha and the poem was translated into Telugu by Paddam Anasuya and it was published as a book.

There was no change in his life except that Doli Ramachandraya became Padmashri Ramachandrayya. The same house, the same poverty, the same profession... In the end, that Padma Shri became a gift to him.

Honors and favors could not satisfy his hunger. God knows about crores of rupees! A debt of 14 lakhs is left around the hospitals.

The cemetery is better than the rulers who broke their promise to give the land of the house, and donated six feet of land without asking!

Down the memories lane

Some places look haunted at present but they have had a time of glory in the past. Transformation of things are inevitable in the world. Decades back, now this debris conditioned stage located in the branch library synonymous with many cultural activities and a music troupe was giving programs constantly. Back then, there was no Whatsapp, Youtube or even no trace of a smartphone and people gathered here instantly when there was any playlets or music recital. Those who crossed their fifties of their age, it was a rare memory to cherish.

Then branch library was on the lane of temple. Demands were popping up for the own building and the present entity got materialized with the effect of struggle of booklovers. It is a happiest news but the shine faded to the stage which housed memories of past glory at the same time. Branch library keeps receiving help for further development ,from the donors. Enthusiasts of employment are always seen in and outside of the library to prepare for the competitive tests. Many candidates have benefitted out of the stock of journals.
